Who you should see this Glastonbury Festival

In under a weeks time we will be at Glastonbury Festival, exploring the small city-like event, seeing as much music as we can, and getting lost in the bubble of a legendary festival's atmosphere. So if you are going too, here's a few top picks of artists we want to see; if you are watching from the dry and comfy warmth of your home, keep an eye out for these favourites. There are classic legends gracing Glastonbury with their presence, some incredible up and coming musicians, and a wealth of contemporary artists. With so much amazing music going on across the weekend, amongst celebrations of many of the other arts (this is not just a music festival), you can't see everything, but these artists are the cream of the crop.

Justice

We've been wanting to see Justice appear on the festival circuit ever since their latest album Woman was released last year, low and behold they will be ending the festival for us...what a way to go. We're expecting an incredible light-show and mind-blowing visuals. Their electronic nu-disco sound is often compared to that of Daft Punk's (and not just because they are a French duo), but they have put themselves on the map as some of dance music's most creative pioneers. With classics such as 'D.A.N.C.E.' and new tracks like 'Safe and Sound', this will be a killer closer.

Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals

This man has been going from strength to strength over the last few years, his 2015 release Malibu was a blend of neo-soul, jazzy hip hop, and R&B. Anderson .Paak is a rare breed, he's both the drummer and lead vocalist, as well as a producer, he exemplifies proper craftsmanship. With his band The Free Nationals releasing their debut album this year (when they play they sound as tight as a nun's...), as well as some older tunes from Venice and Anderson .Paak's collab NxWorries, this is sure to be a real highlight.

CHIC featuring Nile Rodgers

This will be a bit of a moment for us here at TLG, for me this feels like coming full circle, having seen them 4 times since Bestival 2014. I have been wanting them to be at Glastonbury for a while, to experience all those classics from my favourite musician, on the Pyramid stage, with the full force of a Sunday Glastonbury atmosphere alongside. They are finally releasing a new album this year, so expect a few new disco corkers. There'll be bangers from Sister Sledge, David Bowie, Madonna, Daft Punk and Duran Duran; my boy Nile has worked with everyone, so this is gonna be one big fuck off party.

Dizzee Rascal

With grime at the forefront of the music industry right now, it feels right to have grime's British icon, Dizzee Rascal, headline the West Holts Stage on the Friday. Be sure to hear some classic tracks like 'Fix Up, Look Sharp' and 'Jus' A Rascal', as well as some proper noughties tunes like 'Dance wiv Me' and 'Holiday'. So if Radiohead aren't quite your thing...head over to West Holts for a sesh with Mr. Rascal, a nostalgia throwback for all the millennials.

Toots & The Maytals

These are true reggae legends, going back as far as the early 60s, they are a gem in such a busy line-up (sadly they clash with Liam Gallagher). Playing on the West Holts stage the Saturday, these guys were the first to use the word reggae in their song 'Do the Reggay', naming the genre. They'll be playing 'Funky Kingston' and 'Pressure Drop', along with numerous other tunes to get you in a summery mood.

Thundercat

His latest album Drunk, released in February, was widely acclaimed and featured an array of guest stars; these ranged from Kendrick Lamar and Pharrell to Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins. Thundercat is a bassist very much in demand, making an even bigger name for himself this year. He plays an eclectic mix of jazz, hip hop, electronic, R&B, and soul, so his set will be wonderfully varied but full of phat bass. Thundercat is performing Saturday on the West Holts stage, one to watch out for.

Solange

Beyoncé's younger sister has put out some awesome stuff with her 2016 album, A Seat at the Table. Mixing neo-soul with funk and psychedelia, she has the likes of Raphael Saadiq and Questlove amongst her personnel. Having won her first Grammy last year, Solange is truly stepping out of her sister's shadow, and receiving the recognition she deserves. With her success now spitballing, she is definitely someone to keep an eye on.

The Avalanches

These sampling masters have a collection of disco, hip hop, and psychedelia tracks. The Australian group returned with their electronic sound last year, after a long wait, as their first album was released in 2000. Riding on the wave of their impressive 2016 album Wildflower, the group have been spreading their music internationally, and will soon be performing on the West Holts stage the Saturday of Glastonbury.

The Jacksons

Not much needs to be said about these guys, you know who The Jacksons are, they'll be singing and dancing to pure disco classics. It's inevitably going to be different without Michael Jackson, but who cares, it's The Jacksons for goodness sake, they are some of the legends performing at this years festival. Once again an act playing at West Holts, headlining the Saturday night, basically we will be spending a lot of time at that stage. 'Blame It On The Boogie' and 'Can You Feel It' are just some of the many bangers which make this set a nostalgic party.

Liam Gallagher

A late addition to the line-up, the former Oasis frontman has just kicked off his solo career with the anthemic 'Wall of Glass', and has an album to follow later this year. There are reasonable rumours that an Oasis reunion is on the cards (Noel Gallagher and Andy Bell are both in attendance for different reasons), so you wouldn't want to miss that. Even if that doesn't happen, Liam Gallagher is the 90s generations' Rock 'n' Roll Star, his new stuff has a great sound and there'll inevitably be some Oasis tunes, absolute must-see.
